Mana Tamariki
| Mana
Tamariki was built to accommodate a new Maori learning centre. Part of the
project also included the refurbishment of a number of free standing existing
timber clad classrooms and the construction of an outdoor play ground. The
project demanded a high level of carpentry skills to construct a geometrically
challenging new main building that had a number of interesting details that
included curved internal walls with art relief, negatively detailed exposed
timber lined ceilings and an indoor play area complete with a steel framed
timber bird’s nest. The main building was constructed mainly of pre-cast
panels and timber framed walls. The project has received a number of accolades,
most notably winning the 2008 Registered Master Builders National Award
in the category of Education. |

All the doom and gloom talk in the media makes it easy to slip into a negative mode and await the end of the big R, but that’s not what I would like to see, nor indeed what is going to happen to us...
